Academic Physiotherapy Centre

The Academic Physiotherapy Centre  was created with cooperation with Vincent Pol University. The Centre provides patients with professional physiotherapy treatments aimed at improving a patient’s strength and mobility after a period of illness. We want our patients to recover after an illness and to restore their endurance and physical activity. The therapeutic process is planned and managed by a team of professional doctors and physiotherapists. Thanks to the contract with the National Healthcare Fund (NFZ) the Academic Physiotherapy Centre is able to offer patients with serious conditions free rehabilitation according to the legal regulations about refunded treatment.  The centre has the latest equipment for diagnostics and rehabilitation. Due to the invaluable experience gained from practical classes in the education of future physiotherapists it is also a place where students do their clinical practice and where scientific research can be conducted.

In the Academic Physiotherapy Centre we offer our patients the following therapies:

  • Kinesiotherapy: it is treatment with exercise and movement. Kinesiotherapy is the basic and the most important field of physiotherapy. The treatment is based on the exercises with restricted areas which are affected by a disease, or it can be based on general exercises improving a person’s endurance and strength which influences the final result of the treatment. We can offer the following types of exercises: passive exercises, isometric exercises, passive-active exercises, self-assisted exercises, non-weight bearing exercises, active exercises, and resistance exercises. With some patients with diseases of the locomotor system and nervous system we use individual kinesiotherapy methods: mechanical, neurophysical or educational.
  • Physical therapy: it means using for medical purpose various types of energy produced by different equipment. We offer electrotherapy, ultrasounds, magnetotherapy, laser therapy, light therapy, thermotherapy, cryotherapy. Such treatments are a perfect way of complementing other rehabilitation exercises.
  • Massage: a set of various manual techniques used in an appropriate sequence which in a mechanical way, through the massaged areas of the body, affect the skin, muscles, joints and cardiovascular system and nervous system as well as internal organs. We offer classical massage, relaxing massage and therapeutic massage.

Physical treatments:

  • Galvanization therapy:
It is a therapy which uses electric current. The medical effect of galvanization is related to various ways of setting the electrodes. Depending on the used methods this therapy reduces overstimulation of nerves, soothes the pain, improves the blood flow and has an antiphlogistic effect.
  • Iontophoresis:
Iontophoresis is a technique which uses an electric current to deliver a medicine (water solution, ointment or gel) or other chemical through the skin. Using this therapy facilitates absorption of a medicine by the affected tissue. The medicines used during the therapy are: analgesics, antiphlogistic, antirheumatic, medicines expanding capillaries and softening scar tissue.
  • Diadynamic therapy (DD):
This therapy can relieve pain, it can also increase the blood flow (expand capillaries), reduce muscle tension. Diadynamic therapy is used in neuralgia, rheumatoid arthritis, muscle atrophy. It is also very important in treatment of injury swellings and problems with blood circulation.
  • Interferencial therapy (Interdynamic):
Depending on the parameters, this therapy can relieve pain increasing the blood flow and nourishing tissues or it can have a relaxing effect, or the combination of both. This therapy is used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis of limbs, backaches, muscle atrophy, old injuries and post-operation conditions of muscles, rheumatism of soft tissues, neuralgia.
  • TENS:
It is a therapy that uses low-voltage electrical current for pain relief. The pain relief effect is based on nerve stimulation. This treatment is used mainly in muscle pain, backaches and joint pains as well as neuralgia.
  • Electrostimulation:
This treatment is based on stimulating muscles with electric current. As a result of electric stimulation muscles contract in a controlled way without engaging the part or the whole nervous system which is responsible for a contraction in a regular situation. Electrostimulation is widely used in neurological diseases when conduction of nerve impulses is disturbed. It is prescribed for muscle weakening, partial nerve damage, muscle atrophy, and muscle palsy.
  • Träbert’s current (Ultra Reiz):
The most common indications for using this treatment are: neuralgia, muscle pains, chronic rheumatoid arthritis of joints and spine, joint and muscle injuries, problems with blood circulation.
  • Laser therapy:
This treatment uses low level laser therapy for laser biostimulation which allows for supplying additional energy to cells and tissues and in this way supports natural organism regeneration and healing processes. Laser therapy is used in backaches, chronic rheumatoid arthritis, chronic nerve inflammations, difficult wounds, post-operation scarring, neuralgia and other pains, muscle spasms.
  • Ultrasounds and Phonophoresis
This treatment has a positive influence on many diseases by increasing of the blood supply and the mechanical effect of ultrasound (micro massage). It is mainly used in medical treatment of chronic rheumatoid arthritis, thickening of periosteum (heel spur, osteoarthrosis), chronic muscle inflammations, inflammations of synovial membrane, backaches. Very often ultrasound is used to enhance the delivery of topically applied painkillers or antiphlogistic agents which is called phonophoresis.
  • Magnetic field (Magnetotherapy):
This treatment is often used in physical therapy. Magnetic field penetrates all body tissues so treatments can be done through clothes, plaster cast or bandages. Magnetotherapy is often used in bone fractures treatment ( accelerates regeneration of bone tissue), in osteoporosis (beneficial for bone and connective tissues), in treatments of various types of pain (neuralgia, phantom pains, headaches, migraines), in degenerative spine and join diseases, and in various types of injuries (contusions, sprains, dislocations).
  • High frequency magnetic field (Terapuls, Diathermy):
This treatment is based on deep but mild thermal and heating influence of magnetic fields or microwaves on body tissues. It is especially used in joint diseases for example hip joints.
  • Cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen
This therapy is based on lowering of the temperature of body tissues with liquid nitrogen. The aim of this treatment is to lower the temperature of the skin and deep tissues in order to cause a deep congestion of the treatment area. Cryotherapy is used to relieve pain and to increase the blood supply in body tissues. Under the influence of low temperature capillaries decrease their diameter but at the same time deep blood vessels expand. Thanks to this mechanism we obtain the congestion of deep tissues. Cryotherapy has a lot of medical indications: serious conditions after injuries, severe inflammations of tissues, swellings after injuries, rheumatoid arthritis, pains, neuralgia, inflammations of joints, and psoritic arthritis.
  • Solux lamp:
This is a treatment based on using infrared light which penetrates deep into the body producing heat. Infrared has a very positive effect on the human body. It expands the capillaries in the skin and as a result increases the arterial blood flow in tissues, encourages the metabolic processes, alleviates the pain by increasing the pain threshold, reduces muscle tension. Indications for the solux lamp treatment are: chronic inflammation of the locomotor system, neuralgia, trophic skin changes, bacterial infections of the skin, chillblains or X-ray or UV skin damage. Solux lamp treatment is often used as a preparatory therapy before a massage, kinesiotherapy or other electrotherapy treatments.
  • Massage:
involves acting on the body with mechanical pressure on body tissues. This type of treatment has tremendous influence of the whole body. It influences the following body organs:

Skin:
• helps your skin breathe
• improves skin nourishing
• accelerates the blood and lymph flow in the skin
• helps skin’s elasticity and firmness and as a result its appearance
• helps to reduce cellulite

Muscle tissue:
• increases muscle efficiency
• increases muscle elasticity and firmness
• regenerates after the long-lasting physical effort

Cardiovascular and lymphatic system:
• helps the activity of all body systems (blood vessels exercise)
• helps the vain blood flow
• reduces the blood resistance in arteries and helps your heart work properly

Nervous system:
• makes you feel relaxed and calm
• relieves the symptoms of stress
