VPU students with appointments to the Sports Training Centre

Two students of Vincent Pol University – Maria Szwed and Jakub Hołub – have received nominations to the Academic Sports Training Centre.

The nominations were handed to them on Monday at the Town Hall by Beata Stepaniuk-Kuśmierzak, Deputy Mayor of Lublin for Culture, Sport and Participation, and Leszek Daniewski, Lublin City Councillor.

Maria Szwed is a first-year student of physiotherapy at VPU. She has numerous successes in sport climbing to her credit. This year she won the European champion title in Duisburg and the world vice-champion title in time trial climbing under 20 in Seoul.

Jakub Hołub is a first-year sport science student at VPU. An athlete in athletics, he trains high jump. Last year, he won a silver medal at the Polish Junior U20 Athletics Championships.

The Academic Centre for Sport Training in Lublin (ACSS Lublin) is a scholarship programme that has been in operation since 2015, which was established at the initiative of the City of Lublin.

– Together with Lublin’s universities, we are trying to support the best athletes studying in our city in this way,”

emphasised Mayor Beata Stepaniuk-Kuśmierzak.

The aim of the ACSS is to support the training of athletically talented young people who are preparing for events on the international arena – the Universiade, the Academic World Championships or the Olympic Games.

Thanks to the scholarship, athletes can develop their talent, including purchasing the necessary equipment, attending training camps or going to international sporting events.
