On Saturday, 13th of the January, the key games in the Lubelskie Voivodeship Women’s Futsal Academic Championships took place.
Futsal is a type of football played on small indoor pitches. It is a version of football played in teams of five, including a goalkeeper. The rules of the game are similar to traditional football, but because of the smaller pitch and fewer players, the pace of play is faster and technique and skill are more required.
Teams from renowned universities – Vincent Pol University, Catholic University of Lublin, Medical University of Lublin and Marie Curie Skłodowska University – took part in an exceptionally fierce competition. After exhausting and extremely exciting games, the places were distributed as follows: Medical University of Lublin(UM) took fourth place, the bronze medal went to the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL) team, the silver was won by the VPU team, and the highest honour, the gold medal, went to the players from Maria Curie-Sklodowska University (UMCS).
The girls played a great match today. We expected a positive result and they did not disappoint us. Generally, the girls also have spirit and don’t give up. They showed today that they did not get out of the group by mistake. – says Grzegorz Wróblewski, coach of the AWP team
