Career Day at VPU with huge attendance and interest

Offers of jobs, internships, apprenticeships, but also counselling and support in career development – all this could be counted on by the participants of the Career Day, which on Wednesday, 12 June, Vincent Pol University organised together with the Municipal Employment Office in Lublin.

– I am very pleased that after the break caused by the pandemic, we can resume the organisation of the Career Day at our university – emphasised the president and founder of VPU, Chancellor doc. Henryk Stefanek, opening the event.

Thirty-five exhibitors applied to take part in the Career Day, which Vincent Pol University organised jointly with the Municipal Employment Office in Lublin.

– This turnout surprised us very positively. It shows that there is a lot of demand on the labour market for university graduates. I hope that both young people and employers will leave today satisfied – said the Chancellor.

Katarzyna Kępa, director of the Municipal Labour Office in Lublin, noted that such initiatives are worth repeating.

– Young people need information about the labour market and employers need employees. The Career Day is ideally suited to this, because you can get a full range of information about employment offers, said director Kępa. And she turned to young people: – I hope that after today’s meetings and talks you will know in which professional direction to go.

The VPU auditorium was bursting at the seams. There were long queues of interested people at the stands, companies, institutions, offices, foundations and other establishments. Everyone wanted to find something for themselves or ask questions about setting up a business or other career-related issues.

At one of the stands, officers from the Lublin Regional Police Headquarters and the Central Office for Combating Cybercrime answered questions.

– Students ask about the recruitment process for police service, including details of recruitment tests. They are also interested in what ‘good repute’ means and whether it includes fines, criminal proceedings and the opinions of neighbours – explains Superintendent Marek Zając of the Central Cybercrime Combating Bureau. – The questions also relate to the specifics of recruitment to the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime (CBZC), which differs from standard police recruitment. There is no aptitude test in the CBZC, but candidates must pass a theoretical test in IT and a foreign language test.

Artemi Piasecki, a Physiotherapy student at Vincent Pol University, was very pleased with his participation in the Career Day: – Such initiatives are very helpful for students. Thanks to them we can find internships, apprenticeships and jobs, which is fantastic. I view the event very positively because it gives us the opportunity to talk to employers and see what they have to offer – said Artemi.

Student Martyna Silicz made a similar comment: – There are a lot of varied offers, including from the police, the National Chamber of Physiotherapists and employment agencies. There really is a lot to choose from – she reported.

Blessent, an English-speaking student of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Vincent Pol University, emphasised that such events are also helpful for English-speaking students: – Thanks to them, we can learn about the job offers of companies from other countries and find out what they offer to students from abroad – he said.

In addition, during the Career Day, students were able to take part in a discussion meeting with a coach – Dr Anna Kaczorowska, co-founder of VPU’s Academic Centre for Therapy and Integral Development – about what competences employers expect from future employees. Dr Kaczorowska also conducted individual sessions – how to cope with the anxiety associated with, among other things, looking for or taking on a new job.

According to Anna Augustyniak, deputy mayor of Lublin for social affairs, the Career Day is a beautiful cooperation between employers and graduates.

– I am glad that such initiatives are organised at universities. Each of us knows how difficult it is to find oneself on the current labour market and to choose the path for oneself, because there are many offers. Meetings like this help young people to make the right decision – said deputy mayor Anna Augustyniak. She wished everyone good choices: – Career Day gives you the opportunity to get to know job offers directly, to have contact with other people. And this is priceless – she concluded.
